Finance and Budget

Overview

The City of Colby's budget develops the road map necessary for providing programs and services to citizens of Colby. The City Council and City staff put a great deal of effort and time into preparing the annual budget. The City staff begins the budget process in the middle of April to the first of May. The budget process includes considerable staff participation from all departments, along with City Council direction and input concerning key policy areas. The proposed budget is prepared, reviewed and reworked by Department Heads and the City Manager before the final proposal is presented to the governing body in early July. The governing body conducts work sessions at Special Council meetings to review the proposed budget and determine the final budget to be presented at a public hearing in early August. The public has the opportunity to participate with comments, concerns, or budget requests during the budget work sessions and at a public hearing prior to the adoption of the budget.
